When Traditions Become Law
Let’s explore how traditions have overshadowed and replaced the authority of the Scriptures. Have man-made customs taken priority over the Word?
This video evaluates traditions through a biblical lens, holding fast to faith and obedience to biblical truth rather than added traditions.
About
Tom Damour
Tom Damour has spent more than four decades teaching, writing, and preaching from the Scriptures with a particular passion for helping people to read the Bible carefully, contextually, and above all prayerfully.
Tom earned his B.A. in Mass Communications from Central Washington State College (now Central Washington University), where he began to see how language, media, and message shape the way people hear truth. He later completed a master’s degree at Ambassador College in Pasadena, California (1980), focusing his studies on theology, biblical interpretation, and pastoral ministry.
Over the course of his ministry, Tom has served congregations in several states, including West Virginia, Louisiana, Mississippi, Illinois, and Texas. His work has combined week-in, week-out pastoral care with ongoing teaching and writing, especially in the areas of:
Interpreting Scripture with integrity and humility
Understanding the relationship between the Old and New Testaments
Equipping lay Christians to handle difficult theological and historical questions
Developing practical teaching tools—outlines, glossaries, and study kits—for use in local churches
Retired from full-time pastoral ministry since 2019, Tom continues to write, teach, and mentor others who are serious about studying the Bible. His recent projects often bring together careful exegesis, historical background, and accessible explanation, with an emphasis on what he calls “pearl-string” interpretation—letting Scripture interpret Scripture while maintaining a deep respect for the text as the word of God.
When he is not writing or studying, Tom enjoys life at a more deliberate pace, including the quiet work of amateur beekeeping—a hobby that, like his teaching, rewards patience, attention, and respect for the way things were designed to work.
Tom’s ongoing goal is simple: to help thoughtful readers grow in their confidence that the Bible is coherent, trustworthy, and meant to be read with both a renewed mind and a contrite, teachable heart.
